Der patriotische Name „Wilhelm Tell“ der Liegenschaft an der General-Guisan-Strasse 31 in Winterthur mag trügen: Seit über 20 Jahren ist die „GISI / GGS31“ als Hochburg subversiver Kultur und Brutstätte alternativer Lebensentwürfe so berühmt wie berüchtigt.
Die Besetzung der GISI dauert nun schon seit dem 27. Januar 1997 an - keine andere B'setzi in der Stadt vermochte sich so lange gegen kapitalistische Gentrifikation, polizeiliche Räumungsversuche oder Anschläge rechtsextremer Gruppierungen zur Wehr zu setzen. Stadträt*innen*e, Polizeivorsther*innen, zuständige der Terresta Verwaltung und Sanierungspläne kamen und gingen .... die GISI bleibt.
In einem Selbstverständnis von Autonomie und kollektiver Selbstverwaltung ist die GISI zu einer Oase geworden; einem Wohn- und Kulturraum mit Konzerten, Workshops, Essen für alle und sagenhaft wilden Parties; eine real existierende Legende.
Doch die Existenz der GISI ist keine Selbstverständlichkeit, sondern Ergebnis jahrzehntelanger Mühen und Kämpfe. Nun bahnt sich erneut ein Konflikt an: Die von der Verwaltung und der Stadt geplante "Gentrifizierungsoffensive" in der Winterthurer Altstadt ist eine klare Kampfansage, der nur mit entschlossenem Widerstand begegnet werden kann.
Teil dieses Widerstands bildet dieser Sampler: Alle vertretenen Musiker*innen und Bands sind Freund*innen*e des Hauses, deren Inhalte, Parolen und Musik den Prinzipien der GISI entsprechen und exklusiv zum sich anbahnenden Kampf um die GISI beigetragen wurden. Allfällige Einnahmen aus diesem Projekt kommen den politischen Aktionen zum Erhalt der GISI zugute.

The houses patriotic name „Wilhelm Tell“ at General-Guisan-Strasse 31 in Winterthur is a little misleading: for over 20 years the „GISI / GGS31“ has notoriously been a stronghold of subversive culture and a melting pot of alternative lifestyles.
The GISI has been a squat since the 27th of January 1997 – no other squat in this town has stood for so long against capitalistic gentrification, eviction attempts by the police or attacks by extreme right groups. City councils, heads of police, different managers of the Terresta real-estate with their redevelopment plans came and went…..the GISI remains.
Through an instinctive understanding of autonomy and collective home rule GISI became an oasis! A living as well as cultural space, with concerts, workshops, “food not bombs” and exciting wild parties, a living and existing legend.
However, the existence of GISI is not a to be taken for granted, it is the result of decades of fighting and effort. It seems that there is a new conflict dawning: with the planned “gentrification offensive” by the owner / house management and the city of Winterthur a clear statement of hostile intent has been made which can only be combatted by collective resistance.
This sampler is part of that resistance: all musicians and bands are friends of the house, their music, its content and message are in line with the principles represented by GISI and exclusive compiled with the looming fight for the GISI in mind. All profit from this project will go into a fund for political action for preservation of the GISI.
